Houses in the USA
How can a foreigner rent a house in USA?
When renting a property as a foreigner you have to provide specific documents such as:
- Passport
- Proof of employment (letter from your employer, employment contract, etc.)
- Financial information (bank statement, proof of support, etc.)
- Social Security Number (if already obtained)
- Contact information of previous landlords
It is important to notice that when you will first move to the USA whilst in the process of finding accommodation, the landlord might ask you to provide an international credit score and employment documentation.
Do you need to be a US citizen to rent a house?
The answer is no. Foreigners are well encouraged to buy properties in the USA. Also, there are no specific requirements for foreigners. Of course, it is important to possess a valid Social Security Number. If this is not the case, then you should apply for an Individual Taxpayer Identification Number that will allow them to purchase a home.
It is important to notice that buying a property in the USA will not grant you citizenship or permanent residence.
